Held in September every year, this week is totally geared for the South Pacific holiday maker with a running addiction!  2025 marks the 48th Anniversary of this iconic event.

Rarotonga is a magnate attraction for the running enthusiast. Every year they host a full week of running events catering for the social, recreational and competitive runners.  And those who enjoy white sand beaches, quiet lagoons and tropical hilly terrain in this unique and scenically beautiful environment.

The main event is the 31km round island road race, run, walk or 3 person relay. But if you’re not up for that – there is a 10km run or walk option instead.  Then during the week, choose another event like the Local Fun Run, Hash House Harriers Run,  or the totally mad 8.5km  Nutters Cross Island Run…which starts from the southern coast and heads over gnarly mountain ridges, across rugged valleys and riverbeds down to the Avatiu coastline.  4 separate Run Events over 7 days, join them all or just your favorites!

Round Raro Race Week Program

Thursday 19 September Fun Run 5:00PM

Todays fun run is an opportunity to meet, mix and mingle with race runners, supporters and have fun before the main race. All participants are asked to gather at the Nikao Social Centre at 4.30pm for a 5pm start to what will be a scenic fun run course. As this is a fun event – we encourage you to be loud and proud and dress up in whatever tickles your fancy to make your run around Nikao a colourful affair! Entry fee for the fun run is a gold coin donation and the event is also a perfect opportunity to make any last minute changes to your race, as any questions with race managers.

Friday 20 September – Rest Day

Enjoy some sightseeing around this beautiful island.

Saturday 21 September RACE DAY

The 31 km race starts at Sinai Hall (across from Beachcomber in Avarua) at 5.30am and the 10 km race will start in Muri at 7.30am. Complimentary buses will be available to pick up participants in the morning to get you to the race by 5:30 am for individual runners and race starters for teams in the 31km by 3 race. The 10km race will start in Muri at 7.30am. Race Numbers and final check in will be conducted from the Marquees prior to race. At the finish line, there will be complementary drinks, light snacks and tropical fruit for all runners & supporters after the race.

Sunday 22 September – Prize Giving 6:00PM

Day of rest in the Cook Islands with limited activities available. If you missed out on the Lagoon Cruise today, we recommend you to attend the Sunday Church service where you can enjoy the distinctive traditional hymns of the Cook Islands. The Official Prize Giving Island Night Dinner & Show will kick off at 6:00 pm.

Monday 23 September   – Hash House Harriers

HASH is one of the oldest surviving clubs on the island, and one of the longest serving and at times largest hash club in the Pacific and not one weekly run or walk has been missed since 1980. The Hash House Harriers wish to welcome all RRRR participants to join in on the celebrations with your best costumed attire from 5pm.

Tuesday 24 September Nutters Cross Island Run   2:00PM

The Nutters Cross Island Run is approximately 8.5 km that starts at 3pm from Vaimaanga between the popular Wigmores Super Store and Vaima Restaurant and heads over ridges across rugged valleys and riverbeds down to the Avatiu Coastline. The remarks from this run have been branded the most difficult in the country. It is not recommended for the fainthearted. Registration and check in for race will be at the Avatiu finish line of the race. There will be considerations for a 2pm start for walkers. Race entry is a gold coin donation. The record still stands unbeaten at 45 minutes and 28 seconds set back in 1992, and promises to be an exciting challenge. If you think you can beat it, give it a go!

Wednesday 25 September Free Day to explore the Island
